- Where is the Hospice Savannah Gallery?
Hospice Savannah’s Art Gallery is located in the hallway of Hospice House, 1352 Eisenhower Drive, off the main reception area. The living room and meditation room are also located off this hallway.
- Who will see the work in the Gallery?
In addition to the Hospice Savannah staff of approximately 125 people, the artwork will be seen by numerous patients and their loved ones, visitors, volunteers, people who attend weekly support groups, the monthly Memorial Gathering, as well as special events.
- What are the gallery hours?
Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm are the official hours.
- What do I need to submit to be considered for a show?
- an introductory letter,
- your resume or biographical description,
- a description of the work,
- slides or photographs of work that will be exhibited
or a previewing by gallery coordinator of work prior to exhibition.
The Hospice Savannah Art Committee reserves the right to refuse any work deemed unsuitable to hang in Hospice House. The majority of pieces (over 75%) in a show must be available for purchase and should not have been shown together as a body of work within the prior 12 months. Obviously, new work (created within the prior 24 months) is strongly preferred.
- What size pieces can I include in this gallery space?
The picture molding is hung at 8’ high all the way around the space. The main hallway is an unbroken 54 feet long, and the opposite hallway has doorways and light fixtures breaking up the space. There is a limit of 30 pieces. Some three-dimensional pieces can be accommodated in the Meditation Room, directly across from the Gallery’s long wall.
6. Should the work be framed? How will I hang it? How should it be labeled?
Work must be professionally framed and be ready to hang with taut picture wire; they will hang from a professional Walker Display System. Hanging pieces are restricted to the gallery walls (hallway). Because the walls are covered with wallpaper in the gallery, Hospice Savannah asks each artist to make a list of pieces by number with title and other pertinent information displayed or available for review. Do not include price information on this list. Each piece will be numbered accordingly with a removable label. Artists may also want to display or have available a short artist’s statement for interested people to read.
7. Who will do publicity of the show?
The Community Relations Department at Hospice Savannah will send out up to 750 invitations and will distribute press releases to the local media.
In advance of the show, the artist must provide Hospice Savannah with promotional material such as:
- a resume,
- description of the work,
- photograph of artist and or work
- a price list (Hospice Savannah requires that the majority of pieces shown be for available for purchase),
- a list of invitees in label form (up to 125).
8. Who will provide refreshments for an opening?
The artist will be responsible for providing refreshments (including wine, if they wish) for the opening. Hospice Savannah will provide soft drinks and coffee and will provide coffee makers, a punch bowl, assorted platters, and disposable cups if needed.
9. How long will the show be displayed?
Most shows will last for approximately 8 weeks. The actual dates and the date of the opening will be determined between the artist and Hospice Savannah.
10. Will I need my own insurance?
Hospice Savannah will provide insurance coverage for the show from the date it starts until the show ends after receiving the insurance value of each piece as well as the title, size, and year it was made from the artist.
Insurance and security arrangements dictate that there be limits placed on the value of those items that an artist might seek to exhibit. Therefore, no individual item valued at over $1,000 or a group of items valued at over $10,000 will be displayed during normal business hours. Exceptions will be made for times when the artist is on site. At those times, the insurance value of individual pieces should not exceed $10,000 and the value of all the work should not exceed $25,000. As of July, 2008, we ask that at least 35% of sales be donated to Hospice Savannah, Inc.
11. Can I sell the work in the exhibit?
Again, the majority (over 75%) of pieces in a show must be available for purchase and should not have been shown together as a body of work within the prior 12 months. Obviously, new work (created within the prior 24 months) is strongly preferred. Hospice Savannah will refer all inquiries about sales of the work directly to the artist. We encourage that at least 25% of sales be donated to Hospice Savannah, Inc.
