HOSPICE SAVANNAH YOUTH VOLUNTEERS (ages 13 - 17) can work with patients and their loved ones in Hospice House; help in the office, gardens, or with special events. All youth volunteers must have parental consent to participate. Hospice Savannah youth volunteers not only help others, but also gain valuable experience and earn community service credit hours.
HOSPICE SAVANNAH HUG-A-PET volunteers work primarily with patients in Hospice House or nursing homes. Pet visits enable the patients to reminisce about their pets, provide pet therapy for visitors and staff, and make the atmosphere more homelike. All dogs in the Hug-A-Pet program at Hospice Savannah are Therapy Dog International (TDI) trained and certified.
Founded in 1970, TDI is a volunteer group organized to provide qualified handlers and their therapy dogs for visitation to institutions, facilities, and other places such as hospices. TDI dogs come in all shapes and sizes from miniature poodles, schnauzers and terriers, to golden retrievers, shar-peis, collies, and even mastiffs!
Volunteers average 2-4 hours per week. Every volunteer completes a training course plus additional in-services.
We have a role designed just for you. You may choose one or several positions of interest to you. If you are interested in becoming a part of our special team as a hospice volunteer, call 355-2289 or submit your application here.
