Although this is a four hour class in total, each session is presented as an individual segment, so participants do not need to attend any one to benefit from another. Caregivers are welcome to attend one, two or all classes, whatever suits your specific needs, interests and time constraints.
Participation in these classes will provide you with direct access to the extremely knowledgeable and experienced professional instructors who will address any and all of your questions and concerns.
Training is offered in: Caregiving Skills; Financial Costs of Caregiving; Long Term Caregiving Plans; and Being a Healthy Caregiver. All courses are designed to be of assistance and support to any caregiver, wherever they are in their care giving journey.

12:30 – 1:45 p.m. The Financial Costs of Caregiving Understand the economic impact of your caregiving and gain knowledge about helpful community resources. We will discuss how to qualify for in-home assistance through State and Federal programs. The instructor will help you begin to imagine what the future holds for you and your care recipient and how best to prepare for it. We will discuss long-term care insurance, and how to pay for nursing home care if needed.
1:45 – 2:00 p.m. Break
2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Practical Caregiving Skills The AARP and National Alliance for Caregiving report of 2015 says that six out of ten caregivers help their care recipient with at least one of the six Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): 1) getting in and out of beds and chairs 2) dressing 3) toileting 4) bathing or showering 5) feeding 6) coping with incontinence. Learn how to safely assist, perform personal care, and improve mobility for your care recipient. We will also teach the basics of infection control and wound care. You will have direct access to professional and experienced health care experts.
4:00 – 4:30 p.m. Being a Healthy Caregiver In this introduction to self-care, we will include practical tools to help you unwind and de-stress. We will talk about nutrition, journaling, advocacy, music therapy, and practice a deep breathing and relaxation exercise.
